The crux of this biscuit seems to be the ability to generate more Need
then there is supply for. You can almost fit voidmstrs law into the
equation, its just an end run around the terms Want Need and Scarcity.
Short of it, eat em all, they'll make more (only in this case more is
less cause more creates Need for more more, which makes the more that
soothed the Want seems lessened and those a Scarcity of more in the
face of a ever growing Need..rinse repeat)
Now to be sure there are ways to cook the books such that
demographics, locality as well as in channel wise, can be made to show
satiety of a sort. Dig deep enough or move out of band a bit and I am
sure you will find Need gnawing at the dataset like old man hunger.
So what do you do when you realize its all a boa constrictor's hug
till the bright bright sparkles dim from your crushed gloozies? Whats
the old crusty saying...be well do good works and keep in touch...do
the least evil...when in doubt throw it out? ymmv..vroom
As to Whuffie and the basis of reputation based valuation, sure it
makes for some cool reading but as with all currencies there are
tipping points and avalanche zones. More begets more? Far as we have
seen that does seem to be how worth works out more often than not;
unless its squandered past the point of its own grandeur. If you
listen to Doctorow's newest podcasted story True Names
(http://craphound.com/index.php?cat=6) you will find examples of that
as well as some interesting ways it gets leveled out (the Filters role
is what I am thinking of here).
Collectivism, to some degree or another, is what we are all doing
anyway; some are just less socialable about it than others:)-
