Reading this lattest lang thread I am struck as to how close it is to
the debates I hear raging when my 13year olds freinds get together
over which bands are relevant, which are sellouts, which are simply
copies of last years bands and now (thanks to some sinister education
ploys on my part) hearing my kid go on how all of them are weak rip
offs of the beatless/smiths/clash.

What I have come to understand after being out of the trenches for a
few years, and now starting to get back into them, is that if a tool
makes doing a job possible in the time you have to do that job...thats
an ok tool to use. Long term issues like documentation, readability,
code reuses, post-kinetic operations, etc etc are great if you can
bill for them..if not you do what ya can and move on to the next
project/gig/task.

Now yea, there are better best (to rearrange) ways to do the deed and
threads like this are great for seeing the varied view point. Like
breaks in the mists and warm blue skies over the gas stained trenches
though that fadesd all to quick as you are tasked yet again to go over
the wall with you sharp pointy stick and a fevevored yell for god king
and country. Once more into the devcycles me droogies.

Person reflections of a dabbling toe wetter...

Python, fast to work, easy to read, the whitespaces thing makes me
happy only in that it pisses off so many codemudgeons.

Ruby, the manga of langs.
Rails, while yes not a lang so much as a dev based on ruby ..sort of
like how DC comic fans most have thought of Shoen Jump

Perl... perl is to the net as hebrew is to the tora..Kabalistic
perlheads, yea you know who you are, make life so much fun....and by
fun I mean study filled nights of forensic knowledge gathering

Java...French..until you learn it then its more like Spanglish. At
some point I am assured it will seem like Esperanto only with more
uses.

Mono...Not a lang but a devious platform to infect otherwise well made
systems with the plague of MS. I thought it stunk when it started and
I still smell the wafting reek of wasted effort and the vile perfume
of Balmer's slaughterhouse mentality. It makes Java seem a damned
worthy thing to learn.

Now take into account this all comes from a guy who has not coded for
pay or pleasure, in any real terms, in the last 3 years and who still
thinks Bounty Bob was the most kick ass guide in all the langs wild
days of discovery.
