Listen to the folks that have really thought this through. Clearly you can't accomplish the goal w/o touching entitlements and defense. Anybody with any degree of economic literacy at all understands this.
Not necessarily something you put front in center in your messaging. Austerity, yes. Lowered expectations, yes. Do it gradually. Frog / boiling water.
