Many people have no interests or abilities in that direction.

Long-term, automation has no need for people. Auto-optimization
never stops, until insufficient crumbs fall down from the table.
Nevermind that indifference is insufficient to keep us around.
Their habitat requirements are different from ours.

None of this is new, but people are religous about their exceptionalism.
