I've been out of Lisp game for exactly 23 years. 1990 was the year DARPA 
zero'd out all of it's AI funding as conventional wisdom was that 
algorithmic computing techniques had far surpassed what actual computing 
technology could execute for the next 50 years.  That very same year the 
foundational proof of scalability for multiprocessor computing was 
published in the Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing.
