Well, they finally decided to name the coastline
from Ventura to Tijuana. The new moniker? Digital
Coast. Anybody else find this grating? Maybe
someone can go break the kneecaps of the person who owns
the trademark on Technology Coast.

Mayor Richard Riordan and the Los Angeles New Media
Roundtable will unveil the marketing campaign at a press
conference at the main Los Angeles Public Library this
morning.

The new nickname came after weeks of discussion by the
42-member roundtable, and reportedly only after Tech Coast
was selected but then rejected because an Orange County
businessman owns the trademark and numerous similar Web
sites.

Other names kicked around: Digital Epicenter, Virtual
Digicyberwood, L(AT), Digital Hollywood, Digital Salsa, The
Wired West, Silicon Sprawl, URLA and Silicone Valley, which
also connotes a breast-enhancement services hub.
