"Jean-Louis Gassee, who used to run Apple Computer's research labs has
called it ``Silicon Valley sophism'': the assumption among the wired
elite that a new technology will take off ``because it would be cool if
it did.'' Examples include virtual reality, personal digital
assistants, and practically everything dreamt up at the Media Lab of
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. These innovations thrill
bovfins but make little impact on consumers."
