AT&T and GTE Mobilnet Inc. will offer technology this year to let people
access the Web from mobile phones. Client and server software for the system
comes from Unwired Planet Inc., based in Redwood Shores, Calif. The phone will
be priced at about $500, with an estimated $30 per month premium for the
service. Unwired Planet's client and server software consists of a tiny
browser application and server software that displays reduced HTML pages
suitable for access on a three-line phone display. The phones are being built
by Pacific Communications Sciences Inc. (PCSI), based in San Diego, and
Mitsubishi Electronics America Inc., based in Sunnyvale, Calif. AT&T will
resell PCSI's phone as a branded AT&T product. The service will be available
to corporate customers by this December. AT&T, headquartered in Basking Ridge,
N.J., is at (908) 221-2000 or _http://www.att.com/_. GTE Moblinet in Atlanta
can be reached at (770) 391-8000 or _http://www.gte.com/_.
